Cumulative Hours: 21
Heroes of New Orleans was back in full swing in March! The students are finally starting to get to know one another and get comfortable with each other, making each day more and more entertaining, especially as each of their personalities shines through. The past few weeks, we have been focusing on communication skills and professionalism in the workplace. The kids have been doing activities that include verbal and nonverbal skill development, as well as coming up with elevator speeches using an idea or an item that another student wrote for them, so they could pitch something somewhat on the spot. We also had Race for a Cause on the 21st! Local vendors, musicians, artists, and sponsors came to support not only Heroes, but each other. It was held at the NOLA Motorsports Park on the West Bank and was a fundraiser for Heroes. I was up in the VIP room, watching over some of the students make sure only VIP members entered. Plus, we got an overhead view to watch the races.
I really enjoyed the neuro module that we just had. The information about strokes and the different types of neurological disorders that we learned was all really interesting. Thankfully, I only have one more presentation for the semester and other than that, it seems to be relatively easy sailing for April. I am sad that this is really our last month of school and that everyone will be moving back home or solely working on med school preparation, but I am excited for everyone and I can't wait to see where they will end up!
